Call to Action : Help us expose abusive traineeship practices

Brussels, 17 January 2025

To: Members of the Youth Committee

Dear Members of the Youth Committee,

We are fully engaged in the advocacy process as both the European Parliament and the Council proceed with their parallel discussions on the Traineeship Directive.
While our allies are pushing for an ambitious directive, conservative forces continue to question its necessity, trivialising the real problems faced by young workers.

We need to show them the reality on the ground.
Here in Brussels, it couldn’t be clearer. A quick search on one of the biggest job sites reveals this: an internship ad demanding a long list of skills and proven working experience, all in exchange for “limited remuneration.” This example speaks volumes about the exploitation many young people endure.

We need similar examples from your country to strengthen our case!

What to do:

  1. Visit a popular job site in your country.

  2. Search for recent ads offering traineeships.

  3. Send us examples of abusive practices, ideally highlighted like in the attached PDF example.

The more examples we have, the stronger our argument will be. Please email them all to Lucie ([email protected] )
This quick 10-minute exercise can make a big difference in exposing the exploitation young people face.

Thank you in advance for your efforts and for standing with us in this fight for fair opportunities for all young workers.

In solidarity,

Tea Jarc
Confederal Secretary
