The Gaza ceasefire agreement reached between the Israeli government and Hamas marks a crucial step towards ending the violence that has caused immense suffering. The ETUC fully supports the ITUC and urges the EU and the international community to take decisive action to see through the commitments of both parties, address the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza and work towards and sustainable peace.
Ensuring peace and the implementation of the three phases of the agreement must be the immediate priority. It is of paramount importance that the deal is fully implemented to ensure a permanent end to hostilities and violence and the release of all the hostages.
Humanitarian aid is urgently needed and must be allowed into Gaza immediately, the EU has a major role to play in urgently addressing the catastrophic humanitarian situation there, including through the support of UNRWA.
The ETUC calls on the EU and its Member States to extensively commit, financially and politically, to invest in the rebuilding of Gaza and actively engage in the process.
The ETUC reiterates the critical role that the European Union must play in achieving lasting peace in the region. As the ETUC has outlined, trade unions maintain that a "two-states" solution remains the solution to ensuring the legitimate rights of both peoples to coexist in security and independence.
The ETUC remains committed to advocating for peace, justice, and the protection of human rights for all peoples in the region.
