The Big EU Deregulation

Joint statement

The European Commission’s Omnibus proposal threatens to dismantle key corporate accountability laws, including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This move would weaken protections for human rights, workers’ rights, and the environment, prioritizing corporate interests over sustainability.

If implemented, the proposal will:

  • Drastically reduce corporate liability for human rights and environmental abuses
  • Limit accountability to direct business partners only
  • Weaken climate transition obligations
  • Undermine stakeholder engagement and enforcement mechanisms

The ETUC urges the Council and the European Parliament to reject any attempts to weaken these crucial sustainability laws. Europe must uphold its commitments to human rights, environmental protection, and fair business practices.
