CONSEQUENCES OF IMPOSED AUSTERITY
The people of Romania have had enough of austerity.
"A series of spontaneous demonstrations, backed by the Romanian unions, have been taking place in protest at the austerity measures since 13 January. ”.
In exchange for a loan of 20 billion euro, the Romanian government has decided to tighten budgetary discipline
{{THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES }}
"Measures such as a 25% cut in public-sector pay, a rise in VAT from 19% to 24% and drastic layoffs have plunged the country into a serious social crisis."
We need to see alternative policies
• The rules on public indebtedness must be adapted to the economic realities and the exceptional circumstances and not trigger a recession and social consequences through austerity measures;
• Fight for a European New Deal for workers, against austerity governance, cuts in pay, social security and public services and in favour of European economic governance that serves the interests of the peoples of Europe rather than the markets;
• A genuine, constructive social dialogue with the trade unions is the best solution for tackling social questions;
• Social protection and the Welfare State remain essential in dealing with the crisis. Dismantling them leads to social misery.
