Attempts to return Europe to a regime of austerity cuts are gaining ground.
The European trade union movement stands united in rejecting a return to cuts that punish working communities. A key battlefield is the upcoming reform of the Stability and Growth Pact, which could set binding rules that would plunge Europe into austerity.
In an effort to expose decision-makers who are endorsing this approach, the ETUC has launched Austerity Watch. This series of updates will focus on threats in the budgetary, fiscal, economic, social, and environmental fields.
