On the eve of a European Summit crucial for the future, not only of millions of Europeans but also of the Union itself, European trade union leaders will be in Brussels to meet the leaders participating in the Summit. They will express workers' expectations and present the Social Compact for Europe, adopted unanimously by European trade unions on 5 June. Given the urgency of the situation, the Social Compact for Europe puts the social dimension back at the heart of the debate and proposes another vision for Europe: one of solidarity rather than one of social regression and deregulation.
Europe is at a crossroads. It can choose between two models: austerity or sustainable growth; A Europe of cooperation or a Europe of competition that threatens jobs, social protection and democracy.
It is urgent that we change course and launch a debate for a Europe of solidarity and social progress.
The speakers will be:
- {{Bernadette Ségol, ETUC General Secretary;
- Ignacio Fernández Toxo, ETUC President and General Secretary of Spain's Workers’ Commissions (CC.OO);
- François Chérèque, General Secretary of the French Democratic Confederation of Labour (CFDT);
