This Executive Committee will be the last one before the ETUC's 11th Congress in Seville in May. Some important issues are on the agenda such as the Commission's consultation on the Green Paper on labour law and the assessment of the Spring Summit.
The meeting will be preceded on 19 March by the inaugural meeting of the Pan European Regional Council (PERC) of the newly formed International Trade Union Confederation(ITUC). ETUC General Secretary John Monks will also be General Secretary of the new council, which brings together existing ETUC affiliates as well as trade union organisations across a wider area including Russia and the Balkans.
On the second day of the meeting there will be a ceremony hosted by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome. The ETUC has prepared a declaration to mark this event.
