Commenting on the results of the US elections, ETUC General Secretary Esther Lynch said:
“The ETUC sends our full solidarity to our sisters and brothers in the AFL-CIO. No matter who is in power, coming together in our trade unions is always the best hope for working people and we will keep building solidarity between workers on both sides of the Atlantic.
"We stand with our brothers and sisters from AFL-CIO in stating that 'No one can stop solidarity. Organized labor is the path forward. In unions, people have power to build a stable foundation for themselves and their families'.
“This result means we need a stronger Europe which can stand-up for our social economy built on high standards and collective bargaining rather than being dragged into a race to the bottom that we can never win.
“We need an industrial strategy backed by increased investment, not deregulation policies that would destroy quality jobs and create the hyper inequality that lays behind today’s result.
“Now more than ever, Europe must be a project of hope which delivers a better life for working people.”
