As the EU digests the contents of the Donald Tusk’s proposed deal with the UK on EU membership, the European Trade Union Confederation said that robbing-low paid workers of their rights would help neither the UK nor the EU.
“What Europe needs is investment and decent pay for workers” said Luca Visentini, ETUC General Secretary “not robbing low-paid migrants of their rights.”
“The ETUC strongly supports the UK remaining part of the EU, and supports a fair deal that satisfies the needs of workers in Britain and the whole EU. I can’t see how punishing migrant workers will help, and it could even provoke a backlash against British people working or claiming benefits in other EU countries which would be very unfortunate.”
“The proposal to deny low-paid migrants in-work benefits is in stark contrast with letting Google avoid their fair share of taxes.”
“The red card on Eurozone decisions is a gift to the bankers and financiers in the City of London. It is irrelevant for working people.”
